With Halloween behind us, Ocean City settles into a quieter November week: Election Day on Tuesday, a 5K run over the causeway to Somers Point on Saturday, and a student production of Cabaret at the Music Pier. Owners in the 19th to 26th Street area should also know that crews start setting up this week for a new flood-control pumping station along Haven Avenue.
This weekend: Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7-8
- Trail of Two Cities 5K Run/Walk, Saturday, Nov. 7, 8 a.m. A point-to-point race from the Ocean City Transportation Center at 9th Street and Haven Avenue, over the Route 52 causeway, to John F. Kennedy Park in Somers Point, where awards are held. Online registration runs until 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4; race-day registration and packet pickup is 7 to 7:45 a.m. at the Transportation Center. Shuttle buses run between the finish and the start. If you are driving off the island Saturday morning, allow extra time near the 9th Street bridge.

What owners should know
Haven Avenue pumping station work begins. The city says mobilization for the Haven Avenue pumping station project, along the corridor from 19th to 26th Street, begins the week of Nov. 2. It is part of the city's flood resiliency work, which the Mayor highlighted on the 14th anniversary of Superstorm Sandy. If you own or rent along that stretch, expect construction equipment and possible lane or parking changes as the work ramps up; the city has not yet posted a detailed schedule, so watch the Mayor's Updates for specifics.
More flood projects in the pipeline. The city also reports that a design concept is underway for another major flood mitigation project in the Ocean City Homes neighborhood in the south end, and that new elevated homes are under construction at Pecks Beach Village.
Wonderland site: council still working toward a plan. According to the Ocean City Sentinel, council members are filling out an 80-question survey on height, bulk, room size and setbacks for the former Wonderland Pier property at 600 Boardwalk, with the results to be averaged to find common ground. Council then plans an interactive public meeting for more input; no date has been set. Members have said they oppose a hotel of the size proposed (252 rooms, seven stories). We will share the meeting date once it is announced.
New municipal court judge. Judge Richard Russell retired Oct. 30 after 46 years on the Ocean City bench, and Douglas Walker became municipal court judge on Nov. 1.
Still underway. The 14th to 16th Street boardwalk rebuild and the old police headquarters demolition on Central Avenue continue; see last week's post for the detour and what neighbors can expect.
The market this week
As of Nov. 1, there are about 229 homes, condos and townhomes for sale in Ocean City at an average list price near $2.13 million, and about 57 have sold in the past 30 days. For more detail, see our latest weekly market update, or find out what your home is worth.
