June 16, 1928 · Upper Township (Beesleys Point)
On June 16, 1928, a toll span across Great Egg Harbor Bay opened for traffic. A private group, the Ocean City Automobile Club, financed and constructed it. For many years it served as the route for U.S. Highway 9, linking Upper Township's Beesleys Point with Somers Point.
