The January 2016 storm called Jonas arrived during a full moon on January 23, 2016, pushing the bay tide in Ocean City to 7.75 feet above mean low water and bringing wind gusts up to 66 mph. Several residents had to be rescued from flooded homes, and the storm also eroded recently replenished beaches on the north end of the island.
