March 4, 1882 · Great Egg Harbor Bay
The schooner Rachel S. Miller ran aground on the Great Egg Harbor bar at 8:30 a.m., according to the Ocean City life-saving station's logbook. Keeper J.S. Willets and his crew launched a surfboat and tossed lumber overboard to lighten her. They did not return to the station until 9:30 that night.
