The Spanish brig Panchito, loaded with logwood and hides, ran aground on the Ocean City bar on February 13, 1888. Lifesavers rescued all 13 crew members at daybreak and cared for them at the Ocean City station. A wrecking steamer refloated the ship seven days later.
