A.R. Ammons was born near Whiteville, North Carolina. While living in South Jersey (Northfield, Ocean City, Millville) he wrote 'Corsons Inlet' in 1962, about walks on the inlet's dunes. It became one of his best-known poems, and he went on to win two National Book Awards.
